Le Weekend 2021 Information

We are please to announce details for the Le Weekend 2021 which will be held on Sat 3rd & Sun 4th July 2021 at Moulton College, Northampton

BRITTANY CLUB OF GREAT BRITAIN

LE WEEKEND 2021

SATURDAY 3rd & SUNDAY 4th JULY

at

MOULTON COLLEGE

WEST STREET, MOULTON

NORTHAMPTON

NN3 7RR

Le Weekend is the club’s annual get together where members from all over the UK gather to take part in the championship show and working and activity day. The weekend is friendly and informal. You can attend either (or both) days and join in and take part in as much or as little as you want to. There are trophies and prizes up for grabs on both days and the chance to meet other like-minded Brittany enthusiasts.

Everyone is welcome and dogs do not have to be KC registered to take part in the activity day competitions and events – in fact they don’t have to be Brittany’s – other breeds owned by members are welcome to take part in Le Weekend activity day.

If you were at Le Weekend 2019, we hope to welcome you back. If you have not attended before, why not make this year the first time.

We look forward to seeing you there.

JUDGES BIOGRAPHIES

PENNY WILLIAMS (BOURNEHOUSE)

My Father bought me a black Labrador puppy for my 7th Birthday and I have not been without a dog ever since.

In 1973 I purchased my first English Setter and was persuaded to show him.  He became the sire of my first home bred Show Champion.

In 1981 I married Gordon who already had a very successful kennel of English Setters and Cocker Spaniels.  Through a mating of my first bitch to Gordon’s Crufts Supreme Champion Bournehouse Dancing Master we achieved great success and established a line of top stud dogs and many champions.  I have also owned and bred several Hungarian Vizsla Champions.

I first awarded CCs in 1986 and was approved as a Championship Show Gundog Group judge in 1996.  I am now approved to award CCs in 25 gundog breeds.

My first judging appointment for Brittany was in 1990 at Border Counties Gundog Show.  I have since awarded CCs on two occasions and am very much looking forward to the Club Show and would like to thank the Officers and Committee for the invitation

ALISON SCUTCHER (SPECIAL CLASSES)

I have been involved in Labradors for nearly 25 years and despite small scale selective breeding I have been fortunate in my successes, winning several CC’s, RCC’s, Junior Warrants, Show Certificates of Merits, Show Gundog Working Certificates and Working Test awards.  I award CC’s in Labradors and Belgian Shepherds.

Brittany’s were one of the first breeds I started to appreciate and judge outside of my own breed, so I am especially delighted to have been asked to judge the Special Award Classes and Junior Handling

In addition to judging, I have also been Show Secretary of a General Canine Society, General Secretary of Kent, Surrey & Sussex Labrador Retriever Club, Show Secretary for The United Retriever Club, committee member for The Labrador Retriever Club and East of England Championship Show and I am also a KC Show Liaison Representative for the East of England.

My sincere thanks to the Brittany Club of Great Britain for the opportunity to judge for you, I am really looking forward to it.

SATURDAY EVENING ‘GET-TOGETHER’

WORKING AND ACTIVITIES DAY

SUNDAY 4th JULY 2021

BOOKING FORMS BELOW

Meet in the morning for information on all the day’s events and for introductions and instructions for the day. Each participant will receive a timetable and map of the area on registration – enlarged copies of these will also be at strategic points.

NATURAL APTITUDE ASSESSMENT (TAN Test des Aptitudes Naturels)

Your dog (age 6 to 36 months) needs no previous training and is assessed on its natural ability in Hunting and Pointing, and on its response to its handler. It takes place in a secure field where caged birds have been hidden. The Judge wants to see it hunt the area, use the wind instinctively and its reaction to finding game. It is a relaxed and informal assessment of your dog’s working potential.

All dogs will receive a verbal critique. Those gaining a pass will receive a Diploma of Merit. The Stan Smith Memorial Trophy will be awarded for Best TAN participant on the day.

N.B.: Former winners are excluded from competing.

RETRIEVING

Introductory training sessions will be held throughout the morning – dogs can retrieve favourite toys or canvas dummies. In the afternoon there will be two competitions, for Novice and Advanced dogs, where different types of retrieves are attempted – of increasing complexity. You will see exercises to teach your dog in preparation for next year’s Le Weekend!

CANI-X

A relatively new sport where owners and dogs compete as a team – running trails over differing distances according to your ambition and fitness! Dogs wear a harness and are attached to you by a bungee line fastened to your belt. This is a safe and enjoyable way of exercising and building a good rapport with your dog. Advice will be available on the day.

AGILITY

An excellent outlet for energy and high intensity exercise that encourages responsiveness. A selection of jumps, tunnels, etc. will be available to have a go throughout the morning, with experienced handlers on hand to coach you and your dog. In the afternoon there will be a mini competition.

SPRINT

Over about 50 yards (with baby puppies having a shorter distance) to find quickest dog with trophies for fastest in both groups.

SCURRY

A timed retrieve open to all dogs irrespective of the article they wish to retrieve (can be their favourite toy or a canvas dummy)

SHOW HANDLING

Introductory sessions will be held in the morning demonstrating show handling for those interested in showing their dogs. In the afternoon there will be a Match, which will give you the opportunity to practice what you have learnt in the morning.

PUPPY ACTIVITIES

A variety of activities aimed at puppies will be held during the day.

GROOMING CLINIC

Demonstrations through the day on how to groom the Brittany. Everything you need to know so you will feel confident grooming your dog at home.
